THE ISTANBUL CONVENTION MUST BE REINSTATED

the-istanbul-convention-must-be-reinstated Violence against women is one of the most serious and urgent problems of our society that needs a solution.

Violence against women is one of the most serious and urgent problems of our society. We do not accept a society where women live in fear; we defend women's right to live in a free and happy society.

As of August 2024, at least 254 women have lost their lives due to male violence. This painful fact once again shows the necessity of combating violence against women and the importance of seeking a solution.

Finally, we learned with deep sorrow that teacher Derya Demir, the daughter of ÇYDD member Mahmut Demir, was taken from her life by her ex-boyfriend. Unfortunately, the life of a female teacher working for a modern future was taken from her by the mentality that claims rights over women's bodies. This incident once again reveals the extent of violence against women and the importance of social sensitivity.

As ÇYDD, we wholeheartedly share the pain of our valued member; we continue our struggle with determination for a Turkey where femicides end and women live in safety. We will never back down from working for a society where women can breathe freely and where equality and justice prevail.

In the face of this sad and shameful incident, we emphasize once again the importance of the Istanbul Convention, because we know that “The Istanbul Convention Saves Lives” and “living is a right.”
