Türkan Saylan’s memory will live on in Odunpazarı

On Teachers Day November 24, 2018, the Odunpazarı Municipality in Eskişehir, continued the good work of remembering Prof. Dr Türkan Saylan who worked hard to educate girls in particular and who received accolades for her international work on fighting leprosy.

The Odunpazarı Municipality has been expressing great loyalty to individuals who have served Turkey and Eskişehir by giving their names to the parks, community centers and libraries of the city.  On Teachers Day November 24, the Vadişehir Park and Community Center were named after late Türkan Saylan who is one of the most important scientists of Turkey.  On the same day the memorial made for her by Sculptor Uğur Çalışkan was also unveiled.

The naming and the unveiling of the memorial ceremony was attended by dignitaries and the people of Eskişehir. Among those present were CHP Party Eskişehir MPs Utku Çakırözer and Nur Süllü, CHP İstanbul MP Enis Berberoğlu, Eskişehir Metropolis Mayor Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Büyükerşen, Odunpazarı Mayor Kazım Kurt, Tepebaşı Mayor Ahmet Ataç, Mahmudiye Mayor İshak Gündoğan, CHP Parliamentarian Prof. Dr. Gaye Usluer, CHP Eskişehir Party Leader Rabia Akman, CHP Odunpazarı District Leader Rahmi Çınar, ÇYDD Eskişehir Branch Manager Sevgi Akmen and Sculptor Uğur Çalışkan.
